Background of the TaLI Educational Fund
As TaLI, we are celebrating our 5th anniversary this year. As the organization celebrates this milestone, the organization has lined up a number of initiatives to enhance its work and celebrate those that work tirelessly in promoting the rights of children especially girls as the organization turns 5. The organization will be launching the TaLI Educational Fund. Inspired by the desire to provide sustainable solutions to the provisions of the Support and Security to survivors of abuse, especially girls, Nyaradzo’s entrepreneurial and creative skills have given birth to this initiative.
Education has a profound effect on both girls and boys’ ability to claim their rights and achieve status in society. For this reason, children’s education, especially pertaining to the girl child, has long been recognized as a human right. Around the world, gender-based violence always has a greater negative impact on women and girls. Sexual, physical, emotional, and other forms of Gender Based Violence hinder and perpetuate to a high number of girls dropping out school. In Africa, Zimbabwe included, some of our traditional, religious and cultural practices such as Child Marriages exacerbate girls dropping out of school early. International commitments have been made world over to address gender inequality, elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against girls and woman within the education system, are some ways of making sure that the girl child access their right to education. Educating girls helps communities and makes the societies healthier, wealthier and safer- “Educate a girl/woman-you Educate the Whole Nation.” The purpose of this Educational Fund is to reintegrate victims of gender based violence to an appropriate and inclusive educational system where they can take a new start and fulfill their dreams.
